Sulzer, Solomon

(1804-90)
Austrian cantor. He was born in Hohenems, in the Tyrol, and served as a cantor in Vienna from 1826. He sought to revive traditional cantorial music by incorporating modern musical innnovations. His Shir Tziyyon purified many melodies from their later embellish-ments and included recitatives in the original Polish tradition.
